Separate STL Parts
Separate disconnected STL mesh components or select imported model parts in your browser. Export individual pieces with their positions preserved in the file.
Enable JavaScript to open a model and use the interactive workspace.
How do I use this tool?
- Choose an OBJ, STL or STEP model from your device.
- Preview your model and adjust the settings.
- Create your output and download the result.
What does this tool do?
Source mesh names and locations are retained. Split disconnected components groups triangles sharing an identical vertex position; touching pieces may remain connected. Exported parts keep their positions.
What are the file limits?
Models are processed locally. Inputs are limited to 50 MB per file and 500,000 triangles after import. Individual operations may have lower limits described below. Performance depends on your device.
JavaScript, WebAssembly and WebGL are required for the interactive workspace.
How are models processed?
Mesh loading and rendering use Three.js. STEP import and tessellation use occt-import-js, based on Open Cascade. These sources describe the underlying libraries; this tool's supported features and limits are listed on this page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I separate parts from an STL file?
Open the model and select Split disconnected parts. The tool groups triangles connected through identical vertex positions. Select the components you want and download them as separate files in a ZIP archive.
Can I cut a connected model into two pieces?
No. This tool separates disconnected mesh components or exports existing imported parts. It does not cut across a connected surface, cap a cut, create alignment pins or arrange pieces to fit a printer bed.
Why did the splitter find only one part, or too many parts?
Pieces sharing an identical vertex position may remain connected even if they look separate. Conversely, inner and outer walls or isolated fragments can become different components. A connected component is not necessarily one physical manufactured part.
Will exported parts stay in their assembly positions?
Yes. Selected parts are transformed together before being exported separately, so they retain their relative placement. Each file is not independently centered. Review the selection and transforms before downloading the ZIP.
