STEP to GLB Converter

Convert STEP or STP to GLB in your browser with adjustable mesh precision. Keep available part colors and export in meters for compatible web 3D viewers.

Enable JavaScript to open a model and use the interactive workspace.

How do I use this tool?

  1. Choose a STEP file from your device.
  2. Preview your model and adjust the settings.
  3. Create your output and download the result.

What does this tool do?

STEP is tessellated locally, then exported to GLB in meters. Available part colors are preserved; CAD parametric features are not.

What are the file limits?

Models are processed locally. Inputs are limited to 50 MB per file and 500,000 triangles after import. Individual operations may have lower limits described below. Performance depends on your device.

JavaScript, WebAssembly and WebGL are required for the interactive workspace.

How are models processed?

Mesh loading and rendering use Three.js. STEP import and tessellation use occt-import-js, based on Open Cascade. These sources describe the underlying libraries; this tool's supported features and limits are listed on this page.

Frequently asked questions

What changes when STEP becomes GLB?

CAD surfaces become a triangle mesh suitable for a 3D viewer. Available basic part colors and mesh positions are retained, while exact CAD surfaces, assembly constraints and parametric history are not.

Why are GLB coordinates smaller than STEP coordinates?

The STEP importer converts lengths to millimeters, and GLB export converts them to meters. A 100 millimeter dimension therefore becomes 0.1 meters. This is a unit conversion, not a reduction in physical size.

How can I control the smoothness of the GLB mesh?

Choose coarse, standard or fine precision before opening the STEP file. Fine precision follows curves more closely but uses more triangles and memory. Reload the model to apply a different precision; the import limit is 500,000 triangles.

Will the result contain the full STEP assembly structure?

The output keeps the imported mesh parts and their positions. It does not preserve CAD assembly constraints, feature history or an editable engineering assembly. Check the imported part list before export.
